You know what?
I think they really do need toys.
All that stuff is Taras decor for her house, not toys.

LOL, poor abused little birds! I know, I am terrible! I had to put them in the happy huts last night, they didn't know what they were but once I did, they crashed out. I wish I wasn't at work, I want to be home with them!
I booked them in for vet checks next Monday.
Susan, we have Lynda's Nanday to represent Nandays, I don't think we have room to squeeze in the Janday. It's OK! :hugs:

At last! Home with the babies! Of course I went to the other birds in the main bird room first for their smootches. The Nanday is greedy for cuddles, she won't leave me alone! The Janday is more wary. He is watching her snuggling with me but isn't ready to join in. She is obsessed with my hair, I think she may be half Caique!
I don't know how to win over the Janday. Should I just be patient and let him come to me on his own? He isn't the least bit scared, he just won't cuddle and he is a bit nippy.

congrats to the family addition - first, i agree that they absolutely need MORE TOYS :excited: LOL
i'd just give the janday some time and let him come - he has the nanday to compete with... he'll soon pick it up :D
what about some names?
Tiki

Jeez, no one told me I have to buy toys for the little brats! I suppose I have to feed them too?
They sure caught on to using the happy huts. Tonight, after I finally got them back in the cage, they climbed into their respective huts and crashed out by themselves!
It's going to take awhile for names, they have to be perfect for these little guys!

I am completely envious!
They're very beautiful - haven't been keeping up with all the posts - how do you guys keep up with all the threads!?
Have you posted all about them somewhere & I've missed it? How old are they & how they came to you etc. I think the Jenday will follow suit as soon as it feels comfortable. Just letting it's friend get eaten first.
Loved the photos especially the little darlings in their huts - big days in their new homes. Wonder how Chaska will take to them?? Will she try & steal the toys? Bet she'll be pissed off about the cuddles with the Nanday.
When Gayla was talking about getting Budgies I suggested a Jenday as a pal for Pita - what do you think?

They are still sleeping in their happy huts and I am typing in the dark. I'll have to wake them soon, I leave for work in half an hour.
I think I have a name for the Nanday.
IXCHEL: Moon Goddess of Pregnant Women and mother of the BACABS by ITZAMNA.
She invented weaving and, being partly waterfall herself, takes charge of downpours. Her hair is very snaky — it's made from real snakes.
If humans upset her she can get very grumpy. If you see her wearing her crossbones skirt and writhing serpent hair do try not to be noticed. Then again she has a softer side as a Rainbow Goddess of Childbirth.
IXCHEL is also known as God O. Or rather, Goddess O. O is for Obstetrics. She is the wife of VOTAN and, like him, knocking on a bit, red-faced and wrinkly. She's into all the crafts: weaving, watercolors and probably bottles her own chutney.
It's pronounced ee-shell. It's a Mayan name though which is pretty far from the Brazilian homeland.
Another possibility is Carioca which is a nickname for people from Rio de Janiero.
Here is a possibility for the Janday:
Xavante
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
This article is about the people. For information on the aircraft, see Embraer AT-26 Xavante.
The Xavante (also Shavante, Chavante, Akuen, A'uwe, Akwe, Awen, or Akwen) are an indigenous people, comprised of some 9,600 individuals (2000 est.) within the territory of eastern Mato Grosso state in Brazil. They speak the Xavante language, part of the Jé language family.
They were enslaved in the 17th century, after which they have tried to avoid contact. A temporary coexistence with westernized society in the 19th century in the state of Goiás, was followed by withdrawal to Mato Grosso. They were re-"discovered" during the 1930s. From 1946 to 1957, they were brought under dictator Getúlio Vargas’s National Integration Program, and experienced massacres and disease. Due to this history, they have a distrust of White men. Today they are still wary of any approach of non-Xavante, called "waradzu".
The people are renowned as aggressive and prideful. They may be most famous for their dualistic societal structure. Two clans, the Âwawẽ and Po'reza'õno comprise the culture, and marriage is not allowed between members of the same clan. An example of inter-clan relationships are the traditional log races, where the two clans compete in a race to carry palm tree trunks weighing as much as 80 kg to a defined point.
The Xavante are also known for their complex initiation rituals for young males, such as when small wooden sticks are inserted in the earlobes at the age of fourteen. As time passes, the size of these adornments is increased for the rest of their lives.
Yaxche
In Maya mythology, Yaxche is the tree of heaven under which good souls rejoice.
These names are really hard because many of the gods have these long unpronoinceable names:
Macuilxochitl
In Aztec mythology, Macuilxochitl was the god of music and dance.
Kinich Kakmo
In Maya mythology, Kinich Kakmo is the sun god symbolised by the Macaw.
Ah Kinchil
In Maya mythology, Ah Kinchil is the sun god
