Welcome to 2009! 2008 was a rough year with the economy in a shambles and jobs falling by the wayside. :money: That dream trip to Australia or Brazil may seem further away than just the miles involved. Hopefully things will get better this year. Don't forget, there are creative ways to help finance your travels. Using credit cards and shopping in venues that give frequent flier miles is one way--as long as you pay the bills each month and don't build up a debt. You may be able to save some money by volunteering on ecotourism projects.

If you are totally unable to travel overseas this year, look for ways to see wild parrots closer to home. Of course we Australians are blessed in this regards! :yahoo: But even in the USA, there are ways to enjoy the beauty of wild parrots. Many communities in Florida have wild nanday conures and quakers, I got to see some of them last year on my trip. There are several colonies of wild quakers up north too-Edgewater, NJ; Brooklyn, NY and Chicago, IL. California has the famous wild parrots of Telegraph Hill which are thriving and so beautiful to watch.

I have been very busy the last couple months but things are settling down here so I will be updating the main site Feathered and Free (http://www.featheredandfree.com/) with photos of the wild parrots I saw in the USA and Caribbean. Quakers have their own site Quakermania (http://www.quakermania.com/) as do conures Conuremania (http://www.conuremania.com/).

If anyone has a good place to see wild parrots, please post here so all may enjoy!
