i wanted to give you guys an update on my life with pita and valo....

the first few days, pita wasn't too happy being at my place... he sure isn't used to sharing attention and neither is valo - needless to say that i had "conure-concerts" on a daily basis... valo is so nice and considerate  to contact-call pita when he's screaming because he's in his cage and valo is out... (can anybody please tell him, that this behavior is counter-productive since mom's ears suffer?!).
during the past few days things calmed down a bit - i keep them on a somewhat strict rythm, so they know what's going to happen.... come home, take pita out, play with him, make their food for which pita is out during the first half, valo during the second half, play with valo while pita (supposingly) eats, then put valo back and have him eat while pita is out (and is being fed). then pita goes to bed, and i get some valo-snuggle time in (i need that :D)... the routine is very similar in the morning...
pita is the pickiest eater there is... the first few days he wouldn't eat ANYTHING i offered him besides his zupreem pellets (which he HAS to dunk in the water before munching away). he got a little better recently... only thing - i'm actually feeding the food to him... (no comments please :D)... he ate a piece of carrot on sunday morning, then yams puffs in the evening, and yesterday evening i got him to eat ALL his birdie bread... thank god.
he loves to hang out on the playrack and on the hoopball... and he babbles away like a king, telling me all the time that he's a "good boy"...
valo's taking this whole thing with a grain of salt i guess - he watches pita closely when he's on the playrack or out with me... i can almost see the jealousy in his eyes... i don't let them out together, mainly because i don't know what would happen and i feel i'm not equipped enough with only 2 arms and hands to avoid a bad situation...
so far it's been working out fine... only today morning, mr. stinkefuss thought he was being a smartass and flew over to pita's cage, who didn't like that all that much... i was quick and grabbed him right away, but valo's eye was a little red afterwards, and he kept it somewhat closed... i guess pita whacked him a bit (understandibly so)... i went home at lunch time to check on him, and his eye seems fine.. a little red, but otherwise just fine...

i took a few pics of pita on the hoopball and on the playrack with my phone... i'll try to get some with the camera, so you can check the pretty boy out... (i make sure to leave his tail out of the pic, since with now only one(!) tail feather left it's not that great of a sight ;) there's a new one coming in though... let's home he doesn't break it)

Sounds like those fids are keeping you busy! I'm glad you've found a rhythm that works for them both. I know all about that "jealous eye" look - whenever I have Lulu on me I get it from Jerry until I put her down. And if I am so bold as to scritch her right in front of him, he flies over and lands on my arm as if to say "yes, I'm here, that's right, pay attention to ME not HER!"

And no comments from me about feeding Pita his food, Jerry has me trained to feed him his broccoli, he LOVES it but the only way he eats it is if I hold it for him

Well it sounds like you have everything under control! I'm betting Gayla is very happy to have you as a friend.

Poor Pita and his tail! Our one cockatiel broke his tail feathers for the longest time. He was over 2 before his tail grew in properly.

I agree. Sounds like day-care to me! Bee, look for a package tomorrow or Thurs. Make sure you leave a note for the mailman on where to put it, if you aren't home when he comes.

Bee - so the question of the day.... who will have more separation anxiety - you or Valo? :)

Thanks for taking such good care of Pita and give Gayla big hug for me.

Hey, I am starting to be greeted with a Conure Concert when we get home from work as soon as they hear the car in the garage they start. Once we get inside and let them out, they shut up! At least they miss us! And they are quiet when we are home.

Poor Pita - it is all a big mystery where Mom has gone & having to deal with Mr. Stinkfuss - well that must be a surprise.

Poor Valo - having to share Mom with this Yellow wonder & seeing him get all that attention. Maybe if you had a bigger place you could just keep them out of each other's presence.

Hope Gayla can take him back soon for everyone's happiness. Hope Valo's eye is OK. Wonder if this will be a problem in the future with your other bird, when he/she is around a lot!? I guess we all worry that they wont get along.

Do you think time would change things? At least Pita now knows you pretty well.

Say hi to Gayla.
