I was wondering if you guys have some suggestions to help with Valo's little bruise on his eye.... (he has a shiner :giggle:)

Yesterday morning, Mr. Stinkefuss thought he was a little smartie  and flew over to Pita's cage... well, Pita wasn't thrilled about that idea, and did let him know... though I was quick to grab Valo, Pita must have gotten him on the eye.... Valo shut his eye a little more than usual, and I could tell it was bugging him a bit... I checked on him yesterday at noon, and the eye seemed fine - a little red, but he kept it open... it seemed the same in the evening...

Well, it's still fine... but we have a nice redish/blueish/purplish bruise around the eye... he still keeps it open and all, but it's a tiny bit runny, and you can see the bruise on the white skin around his eye when he closes it...

I was planning on getting some chamomile tea tonight, and take some soaked, cooled tea bags and place them on his little eye to calm it.... (that's what my mom did with us when we had bruises, and I always brought home plenty)... sounds like a good idea?

I was wondering if you had any other suggestions - so far he's behaving all normal and the eye is open and clear, so I don't think it's necessary to take him to the vet (correct me if I'm wrong)... however, if it worsens slightly instead of getting better, I will take him...

Do you have any saline solution from contact lenses? You could always put a drop or two in and wash his eye out. Probably the best thing would be to let it heal on its own. It might stress him out if you were grabbing him to do that.

Bee, I think you are handling the eye just fine. If it shows any sign of infection take him to the vet.

Have you thought about introducing Pita and Valo on a nuetral ground somewhere? It seems they are both very cage territorial because they don't know each other. I'm just going by the way my two bonded right off the bat because they have been together since I bought them and there is no sense of territorialism. Maybe take them both into the bedroom and let them fly around a bit?

well... generally that would be a good idea, except - pita's clipped and valo isn't... so there's another problem... the curious one can fly, and the one that doesn't want anything to do with the green little guy can't....
