I put Ixchel and Yaxche in the main birdroom to spend the afternoon with all the fids. They were nervous at first and of course the Tiels freaked out over these colourful newcomers but things have settled down now. What is really amazing is that Chaska has accepted them straight away and is hanging out with them! :woohoo: I tried to get a better photo but it keeps focussing on the wire but you can still see the three South Americans all huddled together!

Yesterday, I had put Ixchel in there and brought Chaska in with Yaxche. They were nervous but curious.

i loved the video. that's an awesome aviary. how long does it take you to clean up that area? it looks like a lot of fun in there.

It's not that hard to clean even if my husband didn't do it. It's all newspapers on the floor, he just picks up the old ones and puts down new ones. I try to position the toys not under perches so they don't get pooped on. They have water tubes not dishes so those don't get pooped in either. I use paper towels in the food tray under the veggies, just pick up the old one and put down a new one. The window sills need to be cleaned up, that's easier than cages at least!

Tara, thanks for the vid! You're fids are very happy and sleek. Nice to see them free flight in their own room. We're planning something similiar for the next place, so it was great to see part of your room. Thanks again, Doug

The video is so awesome - you are so lucky that they all get along. The Nanday & Jenday - they were pals already right? I keep thinking about Valo & Pita & how they hate each other....

Chaska looks like she can't believe her luck! She's never had this kind of relationship before has she???

My student, who has a 15yr old Sennie asked me today if anything happens to her - would i take Percy? I have thought about this ever since she said she was looking for someone, as no one in her large family wants the bird. So I said yes. Of course i have to have some visits before this is a final thing - no point it torturing the bird in the future, with someone it hates.

I plan on being a Budgie person until then - but by then Percy will be quite old & never has had a bird friend. I wouldn't think I'd have the same succes as you've had, to include another. Her friend who birds sits for her, has a Meyers but they can't leave them together or they attack each other, other wise she'd be perfect.

Nope, the Nanday and Janday met for the very first time in my bird carrier but they hit it off. They came from different breeders. I just have to get through 2 more work days and I have another weekend to let them hang out together! Then the following weekend is 4 days!! :woohoo:

Well, you have to remember that Pita is under a lot of stress. He doesn't really understand where his mom is or why he is at Bee's. If he and Valo met each other under different circumstances, things might be very different.

If you can work out an occasional visit from your student and fid, it might lay some good ground work for the future.

Sometime in the future, I am going to renovate the bird room to make it even easier to clean. My husband and I won't always have the fitness level we do now and we plan to grow old with our loving Fids around us. I'm going to completely reline the walls and window sills in Plexiglass so they wipe down easier. I'm going to redesign the feeding station too. We will always need newspapers on the floor but that's no big deal, just grab the soiled ones and put down new ones!

I have been trying for months now to get my tag and cag to tolerate one another. Since my bird room/office is being totaly renovated I figured it was a good time to build an indoor aviary for the two greys. I plan on a fountain or waterfall with natural rocks and branches along with all the toys. Now...if I can just put the two together.
Thanks for the video Tara...got some good ideas from it.
