I* wanted to let you all know Maxi Pi is home with me. She is in quarantine until her tests come back and a bit nervous.
I know I said in the beginning she would not come home with me but no one local was interested and the longer Maxi spent in the rescue the more disease risk she faced. It is a revolving door in the rescue anymore. Just bird after bird, but at least they are also going out. Plus we are having skin issues again and I think one on one will help with this.
Maxi got a sore when I was in Houston in January. It healed up 90% then over a week ago reappeared again. I was hoping it was an injury from a perch but alas in the last few days it has gotten quite a bit larger. She is also showing aggitation again, lots of itching and preening. Maxi is back on Baytril and antihistamines in the water, along with Avian Soother spray 6 days and ACV spray one day a week. I am also looking into RoudyBush rice pellets. If I can't stop her then we face a bigger collar.
Sorry i have been really quiet. The rescue is very busy and I have been feeding a baby tiel. The tiel has been touch and go. We are almost to week four and she is barely feathered. We have faced two crop stasis and a yeast infection. Other then the feathers growth she is an active chick that is strong and has good color.
Hope everyone is well,
Lynda

I'm happy that Maxi is home but I wish it was going better. I'm sure you will see that she gets the best care and pray she will heal quickly. She has been through a lot so must be a strong fid.

Wow! That's super news. I've followed Maxi's story from the beginning on BB. I have to admit I was hoping you would take her home all along. Both of you seemed to have a real connection. Can I suggest that you take a look at Maxi's country of origin and the type of fruit trees, flowering trees, grasses, etc. found in the natural habitat. I think these birds are Ecuadoran but not sure. Anyway, if you can be sure to always include some items from the native environment you might take a big step towards correcting whatever allergy and dietary issues she might be facing. PM me and let's talk about South American habitat vis a vis tropical birds, I've got some knowledge about that region and its vegetation in the trees and on the ground.

Oops, sorry, Maximillian's are from southern Brazil. I was thinking of Bronze wings. They are Ecuador, Venezuela. I've got plenty of references for Minas Gerais and the Mato Grasso in Brazil also, if you're interested.

Thanks everyone! Maxi is doing fine. She has gotten over the nervousness and really is enjoying the home life. Just little things like getting a bite of chicken from the sandwich I am eating is a big thrill for her.

Busterbuddy i will IM you when I have time. I have looked at places like the Fat Parrot Society to see about natural diets. Anything that grows in South America I am sure I can get to grow here. The only problem is plants like the loquats here are not the same plant/fruit as what they call loquats in South America

Thanks so much Steph! The baby tiel seems to be doing good. She is now really starting to feather out. She has a crest, a tiny tail and her wings are filling out. She is just really behind on her development but it is picking up. She should have had all these feathers two weeks ago! But boy this baby can jump, run and flap LOL I can't keep her in her nest bowl anymore.
