I just wish this thread wasn't necessary. I just can't stand that these wonderful little birds can't live freely and legally in any state with anyone who can give them a good home or those who are born wild should stay wild. :pissed: :pullhair:

Your kidding?! :furious: I didn't know that at all. I wonder why GCCs too? Of all the states in Australia I would have to say that I always thought QLD had the worst, but that just about puts WA in front on my list. Would you have a link to more info about it? I would like to read more about it and the other species that are banned.

The Quaker Parrot aka (Monk Parakeet) is an awesome little bird.
They are survivors, a very intelegent (hardy) parrot.
There have been songs written, stories told, and mankind continues to fight this little bird.
Fact, there has never been proof of these little gems being a agricultural threat.
Fact, there has been mass poisonings to eliminate these birds in many states throughout the east coast.
Fact, these feral birds thrive here in the USA and it is said they all came from a crate that was dropped and all birds escaped to form the feral flocks we see today, so many Quakers have been released to fend for themselfs by owners that no longer want them.
Fact, I live in Minnesota, I reach out and help these birds all over the USA by calling state officials, animal right's Groups, making donations to help others stop the poisoning's and find other ways to help the birds and mankind to live together, they are here to stay now, this is there home, killing them is not the answer as more are soon to follow and fill the (voids) from these poisonings.
I weep for these little birds, I can't help but to cry for them.
As my heart breaks, I become angry, I become frustrated, this is a Mankind issue, these birds didn't ask to be taken out of there native home and brought here to suffer under mankind's intentions.
Then the person no-one seems to like gets involved (the activist) and all hell breaks loose, I begin to inflict myself unto others that would support the destruction of these little birds, I become other's worse nightmare to stop the killings.
I may have a broken wing but I can still fly into the world of those that harm birds and I can promise those that harm animals, "you will remember my visit to you", this I gaurentee.
You poison birds, you allow your pet cat to roam the streets freely killing wildlife, then I am going to visit you and you will not like it.

I hope this link works. It's a bit heavy going but basically if it has A3 next to it you can't have it in WA legally. A1, you can't bring in it, A2 if it's found in the wild it will be destroyed.

Good point! WA is Western Australia to us. I was shocked too! I know some species require permits but I didn't know any were banned.

Green cheek conures are banned? Why?
EDITED to say - sorry for being repetitious! I need to learn to read entire threads before responding!
