Here are some pictures of the Ospreys that were taken on Vinal Haven Island in Maine where we vacation. I have been going there for 26 years and this nest has been there long before I started going there. The tower that it's on has been rebuilt a few times and the Telephone Company has a special sling to lift it off to make repairs and update the dish. The nest was trimmed the last time it was lifted and was estimated to weigh more than 800 lbs. The last photo has the young Osprey that has started to fledge.

Osprey are so cool...
One of the most highly specialized Birds Of Prey. With skin rougher than 50 grit sandpaper covering their feet, super long, extremely sharp talons and toes that can literally lock closed on contact with it's prey, it's perfectly adapted to it's main diet of fish.

I can easily believe the weight of that nest as Osprey will return to the same nest year after year - continually adding to the platform. Some are even inheirited by offspring after the parents have died or stopped using them.

I've been facinated with Osprey from the first time I saw one.
LOL!
It was in the classic movie "The Vikings"....
Tony Curtis had his hunting bird take an eye outta Kirk Douglas. ;)
