OK, so I read somewhere that a good forage toy was a small box of raisins.....so I found the tiniest of boxes, stuck it in the bars of Pitas cage, and he destroyed the box....hated the raisins, loved the box, little raisins all over the floor...now I have a huge bag of tiny boxes of raisins...LOL

anyone else try this?

LOL! I never have tried that but it sounds like a good idea. I bet Prinny would love it!

I put favorite treats inside of an unwaxed paper cup. I fold it down and scrunch it up a bit. I either poke holes through it and use a leather string, or a birdie screwer to hang it. They rip it apart to get the treat!! You can also use butcher paper and twist it like a hard candy!

Gayla, that's a great idea! I have about 5 little boxes of raisins left over from Christmas. I bought them to make rice pudding because I only needed a small amount. My kids won't eat them, I never thought of giving them to the birds.

I also use coffee filters to hide treats in, I wrap an almond in it and twist shut, they love ripping the paper off!

my amazon is just the opposite...but he c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y opens the box (unlike what he does to my fingers sometimes...) and holds onto the box, sometimes unfortunately upside-down (LOL) and reaches for the tasty raisin treat.

Do Quakers like raisins? I haven't tried those with Chaska. She likes grapes because they are juicy. The Tiels don't like them, the Princesses don't seem interested in fruit either.

I don't think Pita likes them because they are sticky....he's such a prima donna, he likes his beak to look sharp for the girlies...lol

Probably not a big deal, but I've read that raisins aren't such a great idea because they're usually preserved with sulphor dioxide. Seems like a lot of the dried fruits you get in a supermarket are.

yip... true..... dried apple, banana chips, raisins etc... but as long as it's in moderation, should be fine....

gayla - what girlies???? bella's not here yet... and besides, some raisin left-over sticking to the beak could go unnoticed if somebody would start looking at the other end :toofunny:

(so, now i go into hiding - i think i've used up the tolerance of pita & mom - love you guys!!! :friends:)

so, considering that there's a chance that i'd see him when bella's here the next time (aka this weekend?!), he'd have to hurry up on those tail feathers.... "push, pita, push"

if he doesn't have em till his b-day, i'll get him some to "wear" at the birdie-birthday party..... :giggle: hunter & bella are in btw
