This morning, as I was driving to work, the car in front of us hit a bird. I immediately pulled over and ran out and grabbed him, jumped back in the car and passed him to Ina to hold as I drove us to our jobs. He was pretty stunned at first and his eyes were closed and blood coming from his beak so I was scared we would lose him. Ina used a paper towel to clean him up and when he got out at his job, left the bird on the passenger seat and I drove to my job. Then the little guy made a miraculous recovery and started flapping around the car. I normally wouldn't have a loose bird but I didn't plan on rescuing a bird today. I got to my job and carried him inside, took him to the ladies room and cleaned him up and he drank some water. I checked his wings and thankfully they weren't broken! :yahoo:

He was getting pretty antsy so I took him outside trying to find a good place to let him go. As I started walking to the trees nearby, he squirmed and got away from me and took off like a flash.

I was 20 minutes late to work and got scolded but I did get pics as proof! I don't have time to upload them all now, will do when I get home.

Matty, do you know what this little guy is? I'm not that great with non-parrots.

That's great. Look at that tilted head and open beak - it looks like he was giving you a piece of his mind!

Sorry, it was only a camera phone. He could be a young butcher bird. Here's some more pics. I got some video but it opens with Nokia player, I have to see if Youtube will take it.

OK Youtube took them but the quality is pretty bad.

I wanted to take him to a home and let him go so he would be away from cars but he had other ideas, squirmed out of my hands while in the yard at work. He took off so fast and flew over the roof of the building so I couldn't see where he ended up. I told everyone if they see him and he needs help to bring him back to me. I just hope he's OK!

No, I don't think it was hooked based on pic #1 in post 12. It was slightly banged up and he was bleeding from his mouth only a little but it stopped pretty quickly. He flew right under a car and came out the other side in the middle of the road. His feathers were so soft! He was happy to drink the water when I washed his beak before letting him go.

You think he's one of these? The location/habitat fits, Boondall wetlands is a couple km from where I found this little guy.

I see what you mean about the hooked beak, he might have injured it when the car hit him.
