Now I'm a city girl through and through, I've been to rural places, just never lived in one.

Yesterday, at work, I"m sitting out in the back having a smoke, and I looked over by the IDOC bus, and there, on the ground, was a Red Tailed Hawk, eating a pigeon. At first I called my co-worker, I was not happy that the poor pigeon got killed, but after that, I focused only on the hawk....I was enthralled. It let me get rather close to it, I snapped a few pix and videos with my camera phone, just haven't uploaded them yet.

I"ve lived here for 40 years, and NEVER, EVER have I seen a red tailed hawk.

It doesn't take much to amaze me I guess.

that is amazing! and this is coming from a out and out country girl (grew up on a farm in nowhere land drinking well water from an underground spring) and I haven't even gotten to see a hawk eating it's catch!

I've seen hawks sitting on fence posts along the gravel roads, and seen them flying lots, but never eating a catch, that is really super cool!

I have seen them several times also flying and sitting in trees and on fence posts but I can't say I've ever seen them catch or eat prey. I have seen them flying with it in their claws. They are such beautiful birds.

what a neat experience, I get excited about the different birds too, now that it is spring they are singing all over the place, in our cherry tree we had a male and female cardinal flirting with each other I just stood there and watched and wished my camera was there but it was on the 1st floor.

Super-cool. I love hawks too. It does hurt to watch another bird be eaten I'm sure - but that's the circle of life for ya, sometimes it has thorns on it!

a few weeks ago I got hit with one of those double edge sword emotional things. I watched a Red Tail take out a pigeon in flight, and watched the pigeon fall to the ground. The "gatherer" part was shocked and upset by the display. The "hunter" part was like "HELL YEAH!!! You rock Hawk!!"

I love to watch hawks here unless there after the chickens, than I run around like a fool to lock them all down there are only 5 but one is a wanderer.
