I think some of you know that we're having to give Sandra up as the neighbour can't tolerate her attention demanding screaming.
Well things are all sorted. We went to the avian vet on Friday, I was completely honest with him as to what was going on, he was incredibly empathetic. She was given a clean bill of health.
Flights have been booked and Sandra and I are on our way to Brisbane on the redeye on Friday morning. She's going to a friend (Nat/Smiley) who lives on 5 acres has 'toos of her own and used to work at one of the wildlife sanctuaries so she knows her stuff. We've decided to send Nat some money each month to help with Sandras upkeep too. I'll be staying with Nat until Monday to help settle Sandra in and catch up with a few people while I'm there. Fly back to Adelaide on Monday afternoon probably in tears the whole trip.
The vet said that if things got taken to council we'd lose. Could also mean that we'd lose our other birds too. As much as this sucks we know she's going to someone who can look after her as well or even better then us.
BTW she's nearly full feathered now so I feel good that at least we were able to take her from a feather plucking disaster to a nearly normal looking 'too in 3 months. Expect lotsa tears when I get back.:sob:

Oh Abby, I know that's gonna be a rough trip back home. Sure sounds like she's going to a wonderful home though, and you just can't jeapordize being able to have any birds at all!

Giving up a parrot isn't an easy thing to do, finding a place that will give it quality care sometimes is even harder. Tears are good especially during a time like this. Good Luck

Good luck Mary, I really hope everything works out for the best with Sandra. Its hard to give up our fids, but when you get sad just try to think about what a great home she will be in.She can call til her hearts content out on 5 acres, and having other too's around will hopefully help her as well.
I have said goodbye to one fid and even though I knew it was better for him to go it still made me feel like shit. Tears are a sign that you care about her so don't feel bad about crying.
