OK, since I worked at Petco, I always loved the budgies. I know that 1 will need more attention from you, but 2 will keep each other company, and not need so much personal attention from me. Not that they wouldn't get it.
Pita is pretty independant, and comes to me when he wants to, other wise he's good at entertaining himself. He doesn't need to be with me every minute...as long as he can see me, he's happy.
So, any suggestions if I were to , lets say, get a couple of Budgies?
Cage size etc etc...would I better off with 2 males or 2 females...I don't want Budgie baby's.

Hee hee, Gayla has MBS!! :woohoo:
I'll leave Sarah and Jac to advise you about the budgies, but I would say get a same sex pair.

Multiple Bird Syndrom? LOL,,,they're like tattoos, ya get one, and ya get another, but they have to managable, I don't want to neglet anyone. Do you think Pita will be pissed at me, and have a personality change?

I vote males....
That way there will never be a problem with egg laying or egg binding....
PITA is a male ... right...... even though a different species.. couple possibly set off hormonal/egg behavior when the budgies reach maturitiy...
Just my 2 cents...

That's funny Nate, I had 6 budgie males and they all got along together great. They had their ranks of course, but they all seemed pretty happy together. Now that puts a damper on taming them, since they do get attached to each other.

Gayla, the other idea that occurred to me while I was on PC was to get another conure or a quaker so Pita could play with the new fid. My two new conures are checking each other out, not playing together yet but they are both 4 months old so should be friendly in no time!

I replied to your thread over in PC, but I'll reply here too - two males would be ideal if you don't want to deal with hormones and breeding. Males are generally known to get along well with each other - those females can be biotchy from what I read (can't we all ;)).

Why do you think you want Budgies this time?
Pita might enjoy the singing & chatter ~ Budgies are a bit like all small birds as they fill the air with their happy sounds. I guess in that way they can be good company.
I only have one at the moment so i don't have any experience about 2 male, 2 female, or m/f combos. Some people have little trouble & others have problems. Monica just talked about her Budgies on BB. I think she has 2 males & 5 females. At any rate they all seem to be happy. She didn't mention any egg laying problems.
I've read that they don't always fall in love but are still social.
We are still thinking of getting a girl Budgie for Laker. But my husband is worried & would rather have another boy.
Although i would like to try another species out & lots of you have different bird species together, I think the ideal companion for a bird is another of it's own kind. In your case, I'd be looking to a Pita 2 [as you seem so happy with Pita].
For another option - Are Jendays at all like Suns? - because they sure look a lot like them?
Aside ~sorry Sarah but i voted for Pita's messy face because the photo stopped me in my tracks, although if i could vote twice Lulu or that big B/G face were really great photos!

Yeah when I saw Pita's face I knew that Lulu had some stiff competition :swearing: But someone else besides me voted for Lulu :woohoo:
HEY someone else just voted for Lulu - look out PITA! :bootyshake:

I'm not thinking about it as a companion for Pita. He does pretty well on his own. Between me & his 2 cages & playstand & out of cage time....he's got it made.
I just think Budgies are really cute, and love watching them interact with each other, and the chattering.
I don't know....it's kind of like tattoo's. Once you get one you want more, but you have to be really sure it's the right thing for all involved.
I don't even know if I could handle anymore birds. So still thinking.
Oh and thanx for voting for Pita. I personally thought there were so many great messy faces, I'm having a hard time deciding who to vote for...lol

Jac, I think a Janday would be a great friend for Pita but should be a boy, otheriwse they might breed. I can see a Nanday as a friend for Pita too.

I just love budgies. They were my first parrots and I miss the 3 that I had dearly... I started with one (Kudzu), added a second (Aziz) and when Kudzu passed, I added another (Phoebus) after about 6 months.
An on-line acquaintance runs a nice budgie site called budgietalk.com. She has some well-written tips on care, caging and taming/handling budgies.
Best of luck!

Well I'm glad everyone loves Budgies because they are so lovable. With all the angst around here at the moment - Laker greets my husband with enthusiasm & always cheers him up - it warms your heart to have the little fellow so happy to see us.
Budgies are so sweet - even when they're being crabby. I think Laker is frustrated because I laugh when he's angry. How can you get mad at them???
