Welcome to the brand new Feathered and Free Wild Parrot Sighting Database Project! We hope this new feature just launching today will one day grow into a valuable resource for everyone who wants to know more about parrots.

Researchers and scientists will find it easier to track parrot sightings by the scientific or taxonomic name of a bird. Eco-tourists, birdwatchers and the general public will find it easier to search on the common name of the species. Both are provided in the titles of the threads and the body of the text to make searching easier. I have also provided more than one common name for certain parrot species since they may be called different names in diifferent countries.

An explanation of how to participate in the project is in each thread. Basically, they are to be used to report sightings of the parrot species and more information about what they were doing. If you want to start a discussion thread, please feel free to cross-post in the Destinations for Bird Lovers board or the Wild Birds Close to Home or even in the main part of the geographical species board.

If you see more than one parrot species all in the same location, please copy-paste the report to all applicable species. For example, at Tambopata Reasearch Center, you will see at least three macaw species and several Amazons, conures and pionus all on the clay lick. Please post your report under each species that you saw. Someone may be tracking (for example) Blue and Gold Macaws and want to know where to see them. If you have problems, Administrators can copy your report to make sure all species are covered.

If you are planning a trip to watch wild parrots, have a look through all the species to see what you are likely to find where you are going and also please feel free to ask questions in the Destinations board. For example: What kind of parrots would I see near Lima, Peru?

If you have a keen interest in a particular species, you can subscribe to it's thread and receive an email alert if someone reports a sighting. To subscribe to a thread, simply open the thread, go to Thread Tools and click on "Subscribe to this Thread".

You must be a member of Feathered and Free to use this feature. Membership is free and easy. Just click on the Register link in the toolbar. In order to prevent spam and reduce the workload on the Mods, the Administrator reviews and approves all applications. If you are not a spammer or trouble-maker, your application will be approved and a message emailed to you to let you know when you are active and can post. Please bear in mind I am from Australia and in a different time zone so don't panic if your application isn't approved right away. The registration procedure is as follows:

1. Use the link in the toolbar and fill out the form.
2. You will receive an email verification with a link to click on to authenticate your email address. This is to prevent people from signing up with phony emails. This verification email often ends up in people's spam folders so please look there for it if you don't see it within a few minutes. The email will come from tara@featheredandfree.com so please add me to your safe sender list.
3. After you have verified your email address, your registration goes to an approval queue and I will verify you are not a spammer or known trouble-maker and approve your application.
4. When you are approved in, you will receive a private message from an Administrator automatically with some useful links for new members and an email notification that you have received a PM. If you don't want to get any more email notifications, you can turn this feature off in your User CP.
5. In order to prevent spam and nuisance posts, all posts by new members are reviewed by staff before appearing on the forum. Exceptions can be made for members whom we have pre-approved.

New feature! Now anyone can submit a Wild Parrot Sighting form even if you are not a member.

Please click HERE and fill out the form. There is also a link in the toolbar at the top of the forum. When you "Submit", the form will go to the Administrative section to be reviewed and directed to the appropriate forum according to the species of parrots. Forms that contain anything inappropriate will be deleted and not posted to the public section of the forum. If you want to participate in discussions, you will still need to join the forum.

I did some re-organization and moved all the Wild Parrot Sighting Database Threads into sub-forums within their geographical regions. Hopefully this will make it easier to see the discussions about the species now.
